What a guzzler!

Being a new parent is quite an education in more ways than one. George's sleep and eating patterns have changed even over the last 2.5 weeks!

The general rule that we were told was, during the day your baby should feed at least every 3.5 hours and don't let it be any longer than that. At night however, if the baby sleeps longer, don't wake the baby to feed (yeah I wish!). Coupled with this information we were told not to let George start crying for food; start him as soon as he starts to grizzle. Well, over the last week he has been grizzling quite a bit and more often than before and at first we thought he had a lot of "trapped wind" but have been feeding him as soon as (which obviously stops the grizzling - you try and whinge or grizzle when eating or drinking!).

So imagine our surprise when he got weighed today - his weight has gone up from the last 'weigh in' of 7lb 8oz too 8lb 7oz! He obviously is going through one of his growth spurts (which we were made aware of before).
What a guzzler!

BTW - he is 51cm long

2 weeks on (Father's Day)

Today is 2 weeks on since the birth of George. And what better way to celebrate on Father's Day but to take our boy to his first church service.
Although we haven't been regular church goers, we do enjoy an occassional service. Also we felt it important to attend sooner rather than later as we are already planning George's christening! It was nice to see familar faces and everyone was please to meet George.

On a sad note, also today, Benson has started to "test the boundaries"! This morning I took him for a walk before church and on several occassions took no notice of my commands, and then this afternoon, while out with Claire and George, he again showed defiance to both myself and Claire. I feel a little better as I thought it was just me he was disobeying. Anyway we have been reliably informed that this is simply a short term hormone thingy (as he had the two brick treatment in May ... ouch!) - so fingers crossed.

Until my next post and in the words of one of my cartoon favourites,
That's all folks!

2 weeks today

Yes today is 2 weeks on since the day George was born and what better way to celebrate on Father's Day but to take our boy to his first church service.
Although we haven't been regular church goers, we do enjoy the service and community found there.

Midwife visit today - George has been weighed today.

Almost 2 weeks on ......

Well this is my first ever blog and it comes almost 2 weeks after my wife gave birth to our first child. It is true that this momentuous occassion in our lives has instigated my investigation into blogging - so here I am.
Anyway, George Robert Dunbar was born 3 weeks early, weighing in at 6lb and 10oz. Claire (my wife) was in labour for around 6 hours and everything went smooth. As Claire was really well after giving birth, we had almost 50 visitors over the first week - coming to meet George! (I should've charged an entrance fee!) I was able to take a week off but have been back to work this week (need the money!)

Now almost 2 weeks on and I can happily report that the novely hasn't worn off. Even though he feeds and needs his nappy changing regularly, we are both "chuffed to bits" with our new arrival.
